Winter Lovers Portrait - Emilie

Lucky are the ones who clearly remember their first snowfall. Excitement and anticipation are in the air when, one November morning, opening the curtains reveals the first snowflakes of the year.

She was only two years old, so it was a brand-new discovery for her. She climbed up to the window, pressed her little face to the glass, and found for the very first time that a layer of white snow now covered the lawn in front of her house. Winter had finally arrived!

Her happiness is contagious. Her amazed stare and her frenzied steps chase away the whole family’s dread of the cold and darkness. She is tiny, but her eyes are big—already, she associates snow with outings to ski resorts, decorated cookies and her pretty knitted hat. Already, the reel of her favourite season is playing on the big screen of her mind.

For Emilie, described as a little girl full of life and energy who is not known for sitting quietly, winter is a multisensory experience that must be lived to the fullest. Armed with her favourite winter mittens, her nicest hat and her snow pants, she feels unstoppable in the cold.

For her, winter is synonymous with the smell of gingerbread cookies hot out of the oven, building snowmen, the taste of marshmallows melting in her hot chocolate, and the feeling of warmth on her cheeks after long periods of playing in the backyard, transformed into a white wonderland where anything is possible.

And the cold? To her parents’ astonishment, she seems not to notice it. Or, at least she doesn’t seem to mind it. She's too busy concentrating on pulling on her snow pants to dash outside—in a hurry to whiz down the snowy hills!

Even though she’s only three years old, Emilie already has a lot to teach us. Thanks to her, the entire family has rediscovered the joys of winter. All bundled up in her winter accessories, she inspires everyone to marvel at the uniqueness of each snowflake and to discover new ways to enjoy the season, whatever the weather.

Soon, Emilie will try skiing for the first time, after having taken a quick turn at snowboarding last year. By introducing her to various winter sports from a very young age, her father hopes to solidify her appreciation for winter, develop her skills, and allow her to later choose the sport that, every autumn, will make her count the days until the return of snow.
